What Tintin Means To A One Brazilian

Hi there Tintin fans I am proud to introduce our first guest writer who is a devoted fan of Tintin from Brazil. Gabriel got in touch with us and was excited by the prospect of letting other Tintin fans know how Tintin is seen in Brazil.  As a result we have end up with Gabriel's first piece which is a little insight into how ther nations outside Europe can access Tintin.

A Tintin that you probably don’t know

As an eight years old Brazilian boy I truned on the television and BAM! “What cartoon is that?” I asked to myself. That is how I started my “relationship”Imagem 012.jpg with Tintin. It was love at first sight! I really loved the way how Tintin fought against the crime and injustice all over the world (Tintin would be a moral cop in Brazil as he probably wouldn’t accept any bribe unlike the cops here!). I started to watch Tintin everyday on a local channel called ‘’TV Cultura’’ , nowadays Tintin isn’t present on free Brazilian television , the only way that Brazilian people can watch Tintin is on cable TV (HBO Family) that is very expensive here. That makes it kind of difficult to watch Tintin in Brazil for a average person.

Brazilian fans of Tintin have another problem, it’s very very difficult to find Tintin comics here! It’s almost impossible to find them in normal bookstores, I said ‘”normal” bookstores because here in Brazil we have some places that only sells old comics and books. That is the kind of place that I find the odd Tintin comic. The comics that I have are from the 80’s (I was not even born!). Another interesting thing is that it is really impossible to find ‘’Tintin In the Land of the Soviets’’ and ‘’ Tintin in the Congo’’ here though according to my research a long time ago a book company in Lisboa sent some copies of these two albums to Brazil. Today however those copies are probably just going to dust in some store room or other. I bought these albums via Amazon as there wasn’t another way to buy them.

So now I think that you guys know a little bit more about what is Tintin means to us in Brazil!

I try to spread the word of Tintin and am looking forward to the Tintin Movies.
